In February a good deal on eBay coupled with my impulsiveness, found me the proud owner to a first generation iPad...since, I have discovered that the first generation iPads are slightly larger than the current ones and this makes it difficult to find covers that are a perfect fit...I found one I have been pretty happy with on Amazon, but it was already showing serious signs of wear...

Not wanting to buy another new one (just yet), I dug out the case the eBay buyer threw in "for free"...while a nice sentiment the case was sad, and beat up...the function of it was great (ideal, actually) and I have been unable to find the same one available to purchase on-line...I can find them just not for sale anymore...

So...Tuesday afternoon I got to altering...
It started out plain pink with scuffs, dings, dents, and a few pen marks I couldn't get out...

I used adhesive fabric sheets, cut random shapes, and placed them (yep you guessed it) RANDOMLY well 'randomly strategic' to cover up the scuffs, dings, dents, and pen marks...

Then I took baby blue art nail polish and outlined the stitching along with covering the scuffed-up edges...Let's take a minute to sing the praises of art nail polish...it is cheap one dollar, it comes with a small precise brush (perfect for art projects), it is very glossy, and it is pretty darn darn durable...

after letting that dry completely, I put on about five layers of Matte Modge Podge (letting it dry between coats), and took it to the garage to add a couple of layers of clear coat spray paint...

The inside of the cover needed some de-pilling by using a cheap razor which left it looking like new...
I think it came out fantastically 80's...

So far the finish is holding up really well...the colors in the photos shows a bit more abrasive than in real life...

In looking for this case on line, it seems that it retailed originally (back in the day when the iPad was a new concept) for over 60 dollars...I take some pride in revamping it into a new and beautiful life...it was worth the original price, as it is well designed and sturdy...

What do you think? Do you like to make things "your own?"

Honestly if any of my possessions sit still for too long they are GOING TO BE ALTERED...I seriously can't help myself...

Careless,

April
