In the last year I have noticed that it has become a lot harder to do things like walking up stairs...going to a theme park would be a joke...sitting in a booth (where the table is not movable) at a restaurant is a nightmare...and going to a crowded movie theater is embarrassing...

I have been blessed to find a group of seven other ladies that have the same desires as I...we are in a secret facebook group where we can encourage each other in our struggles and happy dance for each other when we WIN!

Last Monday I started using the Lose It! app for iPhone and Droid...if you don't have a smart phone it is also a website that I believe works the same...
The Lose It! app has been a seamless transition in keeping track of what I CHOOSE to consume daily...it allows me to look back and assess what trends may be holding me back from success and forces me to be accountable for all that Dr. Pepper I drink...which I will not yet give up...

The goal is a lifestyle change so there are no BIG changes going on here...I am keeping within my calories for the day...starting to make better food choices...because I KNOW from experience if I do BIG changes I will get frustrated and give up all together...so the turtle I will become...when I have been the rabbit I have NEVER finished the race...

Overview of your day...

How you add foods...

My absolute favorite thing about this app is the bar code scanner...you just scan and what you ate pops on the screen..it is pretty spot on...

You can also, of course, search for food...using their data base...

Lastly a great feature is My Foods...which keeps a personalized list of what YOUR foods are...

Goal graph...

I have lost a little over 6 lbs...

Another amazing feature is that you can add your friends who also use this app and leave them encouraging messages... A few ladies in our Lose It Girls Facebook group use it...I have so far recruited my mom and it has been nice to have a partner in trying to get under control...Her goal for losing weight may be different than mine (I have about triple the amount to lose that she does) but we both are going to get there the same way...

So TRY it out...it is free so you aren't losing anything but some time figuring it out...

let me know if you do...tell me what you think...

I have a few more things to share regarding doing some self motivation that I want to share with you in a few installments through out this week...

What health tips might you have for me?

Carelessly,

April

A tip that works for me - eat more foods that don't require a label. Fruits, veggies, lean meats, eggs. If you fill up with nutrient dense foods you'll find that you have less cravings because your body is getting what it needs.

In addition to what Tammy said above, I'd recommend if a product has an ingredient you cannot pronounce, that's usually a sign to avoid it. I would also be careful about cutting too many calories. You seem to be at a good level there, but I would not go below 1500 cal/day. I know many of the so-called weight loss programs have plans set at or below 1500 cal/day, but many doctors and nutritionists advise against this - cutting too many calories can have the reverse effect and screw up your metabolism. It may cost some, especially if your insurance doesn't cover it, but I'd recommend going to a nutritionist. I went to one and it was great. She worked with me and gave me recommendations based on me and my particular situation (vs. commercial weight-loss programs that lump people together based simply on how much weight they want to lose). She then broke down my daily calorie amount, which she set at 1650-1750/day, into specific grams of fats, proteins & carbs. When I started working out more, she actually INCREASED my calories. I know it sounds counter-intuitive because of what we've heard for years from the diet industry, but again - eating too few calories will mess up your metabolism negatively. If you eat correctly (fruits, veggies, proteins, limited sugars, etc.) AND you're working out, you'll still see results. Good luck! I know you'll do great!
